Vintage Politics: JFK

(Via: Found in Mom’s Basement)
Here is a vintage political promotional poster of John F. Kennedy for President that could be considered a political keepsake. JFK was trying to promote his candidacy to the youth, so I am wondering if anyone in the Baby Boom Generation would still have this poster today!

Super Vintage Poster: James Buchanan Jr.

(Via: Found in Mom’s Basement)
James Buchanan was the 15th president of the United States (1857-1861) and has been deemed one of the worst presidents in American history (a few presidents wear that badge actually). This poster, which reminds everyone to vote for Buchanan on November 4th, 1856, is truly vintage schwag! Political promotional [...]

The Power of the Political Button

Promotional pins and buttons are some of the most popular political schwag. Since they are relatively inexpensive to produce and can be worn daily on any item of clothing or bag, campaigns have used clever and humorous buttons to promote their candidates since the nineteenth century. Here are a couple of my favorite campaign [...]

Vintage Promos: Eisenhower/Nixon Bumper Sticker

I guess it’s too early to talk about re-election campaigns, but here is a vintage political bumper sticker from Eisenenhower and Richard Nixon re-election promotional bumper sticker.

Collector Convention

Political memorabilia collectors from around the nation convened in Sin City this past Tuesday for one purpose: to look at buttons. Of course, they were looking at more than just campaign buttons, as there are more than just buttons at 2008 American Political Items Collectors National Convention Auction. The New York Times reported [...]

Like Buttons?

Interested in political campaign buttons?  If you’re in New York City on early Friday evenings and find yourself bored and without money, check out the New York Historical Society.  They’ve got some pretty sweet buttons dating back to the 19th century (McKinley, anyone?).

1964 Camapaign Drinks

Barry Goldwater lost the 1964 election to Lyndon B. Johnson, but he certainly wasn’t at a loss for creative campaigns. Take for example the above “Goldwater,” pretty clever in my opinion (who doesn’t love wordplay?), but I imagine being a Libertarian Goldwater wasn’t so keen on free schwag, you know how fiscal conservatives are [...]

Early Political Campaigns and Schwag

Here’s a milk pitcher with the face of former President William Henry Harrison, perhaps best known for two things. First, his time as the president is the shortest to date (31 days) and second, his campaign slogan, “Tippecanoe and Tyler too.” Harrison is generally regarded as the person responsible for active campaigning. [...]

The Mac and Cheese Blue State Blues

Here’s an awesome relic from the 2004 presidential campaign: a Kraft Macaroni and Cheese box with special Democratic convention packaging. Politics has never been this cheesy, yet delicious!

Pulling for Ike Billboard

Here’s a classic billboard from Eisenhower’s campaign. In a nutshell: they don’t make ‘em like they used to.
