Thou shall pass

“Today after almost a century of trial, today after over a year of debate, today after all the votes have been tallied, health insurance reform becomes law in the United States of America. All of the overheated rhetoric over reform will finally confront the reality of reform.” – President Obama

Today marks an historic day as it is one that saw Barack Obama sign in the new Health Bill. The new law will eventually extend health insurance cover to about 32 million Americans who currently do not have any. Although it was heavily opposed by Republicans to the point where not a single Republican voted for it, the new health bill shows great promise for the future generations of Americans. There’s also great incentive for its passing in the fact that the proposed plan will lower American national debt by $147 billion. Any way you look at it, this is great promotional government action for Mr. Obama, as it looks like he is now beginning to take the reins in Washington.

George Shush!

When I saw this ad, I almost died of laughter. I couldn’t believe (well, actually with him I can believe it) that George Bush said that. In a “Bye Bye Bush” ad campaign, Tesa tape has made quite a few hilarious custom posters. If only these were around when he was running for his second term as president…how different his promotional political campaign could have gone!

The Daily Show

John Stewart, the man

John Stewart, the man

In the ever aggravating world of politics, there is one thing that will keep most of us sane…and he goes by the name of John Stewart. Making fun of those in the White House and around the globe, John Stewart and the guys at the Daily Show (Colbert counts too, he was there) attempt to unhinge some of the anger that we have towards the government by making us laugh at it…and they’re doing a damn good job of it. I actually don’t know what’s funnier in this image, Stewart’s impression or the fact that I totally agree with the caption. Either way, let’s face it, our news sources these days aren’t too reliable…But I have a solution to all of this…And that’s for John Stewart to run for president. Can you imagine seeing his face on television 24/7! It’d be great. And I guarantee that he’d have no trouble finding people to work on his promotional political campaign. Of course it’ll never happen, but if it did you know that the personal brochures and flyers that he’d put out would be amazing.

No Two Party System For Me

Now here’s some political schwag with a message I can really get behind. Personally, I’m getting tired of this left/right, conservative/liberal, democrat/republican game that everyone seems to love playing. Whatever happened to educating yourself and forming your own opinions? This custom t-shirt is for those who don’t think the two party system is working.

“Miss Me Yet?” Merchandise Is A Hit

Ever since the Bush “Miss Met Yet?” billboard popped up in rural Minnesota, people of questionable IQ levels have been going nuts to get their hands on branded merchandise online. CafePress, a company that allows customers to create their own custom apparel and promotional products, reports that 10 of the bestselling items are “Miss Me Yet?” themed. There is currently no Obama schwag on the list! The Obama honeymoon might be over, but you won’t catch me begging Bush to come back any time soon.

Sarah Palin Hand-o-prompter Magnets

Just when the politicans in our country couldn’t make themselves look any worse, Sarah Palin gets busted reading some Kingergarden-level talking points off of her hand in the middle of an interview. We all know capitalism is quick to capitalize on these sorts of embarrassments, and here’s the first of many “hand-o-prompter” schwag items I expect to see - a custom magnet depicting the incident. God help us all.

Obama Sleep Mask

I’m not sure if this mask was made by an Obama supporter or opponent (the Etsy site of the creator is suspiciously unopinionated), but it could be the basis of some humorous statements about political nightmares, given recent government-level developments in both Republican and Democratic camps…

Anyway, let’s face it - sleep masks printed with other people’s eyes [hello?] are just creepy, no matter how many elections they’ve won.

Change? Where?

Some people aren’t too happy with Obama abandoning his promises of “change” in favor of giving us a third term of Bush-like policies, especially with regard to the wars continuing to drag on in the Middle East. The entertainingly misanthropic designers over at Unholy Apparel have given ex-Obama fans a chance to express their disapproval with this darkly humorous t-shirt, which depicts the president in a war helmet uttering a decidedly sarcastic restatement of his campaign slogan. What is the sound of one man’s approval rating hitting zero? Give it a few more years…

Remixed Propaganda Posters

The Liberated has a ton of hilarious propaganda posters that remix World War II-era images with modern political messages. It’s a great use of classic art to address current government issues, and a lot more creative than a bunch of run-of-the-mill bumper stickers.

Cold War Unicorns

These spectacular Cold War unicorn toys remind us that absurdity in politics is nothing new - remember when we were all threatening to blow each other up last century? Good thing we can all look back at that and laugh, right?

Anyway, these two battle-ready horned ponies, “Commie” and “Freedom,” await your government directives. Just don’t tell them to push the red button - unicorns have nothing to fear from nuclear war, since they don’t exist in the first place.
